The New Moto G →

Hmm. Basically the same exact phone as the old Moto G, but with a slightly improved camera, front-facing speakers, and a 5” screen instead of 4.5”.

The Moto G was a good phone. But one of the things I most loved about it was the size. Taking the screen and making it bigger just for the sake of making it bigger is not an improvement. The new Moto G’s screen has the exact same number of pixels as the old one, which means that all that Motorola did here was make the pixels bigger, thus effectively reducing screen resolution. So this update is disappointing on two fronts when it comes to the screen: 1) it’s needlessly bigger (lower resolution), and 2) the fact that it’s bigger at all.

We already have excellent phones. We already have excellent watches. For the Apple watch to be worth creating, it must be excellent at something else.

Spot on. Nothing makes me yawn more at this point than the idea of Yet Another Smartwatch(tm). It will be interesting to see what kind of wearable Apple announces, and whether it even happens to be a watch at all. We only have a few short hours until we find out.
